‘HERACLES TAMING CERBERUS’

The Amphora is a vessel used by the ancient Greeks to store grains and liquids.
A scaled down reproduction of the antiquity, painted by the Androkides painter and is housed in the Louvre Museum, in Paris.
Depicted on this vessel, on side A, is Heracles taming the multi headed dog of Hades, Cerberus, who guarded the gates to the underworld. This was one of the tasks that Herakles had to complete.
On side B, a typical Dionysos scene is depicted, with Dionysos, a maenad, and the Satyrus, getting ready for a party as we know it today.
