Product Description
AMPHORA 26cm
Red and Black Figure circa 515 B.C.
‘HERACLES FEASTING’
The Amphora is a vessel used by the ancient Greeks to store grains and liquids.
A scaled down reproduction of the antiquity, painted by the Andokides painter and housed in Germany – Munich Staatliche Antikensammlungen.
The two different techniques on the one vessel (red figure on one side and black figure on the other side) were attributed to the Andokides painter and are known as Bilingual vessels.
On this vessel Heracles Feasting is depicted: – on the Black Figure side, with Hermes and Athena, whereas on the Red Figure side, only Athena is present along with a young man mixing the wine.
Herakles had to complete 12 labors (tasks) and on this vessel it depicts him resting in between his labors and replenishing his energy.
